Sketchy Sunday 9

Eh. I'm not that happy with anything this week. They all feel... unfinished. Messy. Due to other stuff which took up my time, Tuesday's and Wednesday's sketches were actually done on Thursday, while Friday's ended up swallowing Saturday/Sunday's space, so I didn't do any doodling yesterday. I just couldn't get settled to anything. I was sketching from reference/real life models and I think I got bored and a little frustrated that I couldn't make things look like how they really look. Bah.

I am rather proud of my nostrils from Monday, though:




And the cat on Thursday is kinda awesome. But it lacks... something? Stripes? But the cat I was modelling it on is solid black. :(

PS: if anyone can identify the dragon/seal thing from Friday, I would be most grateful. It's a toy I picked up some years ago in a charity shop. The bottom is marked "(c) 1995 L.G.T.I"; it contains a battery and if you press hard enough on the shell on its chest, the jewel on the chest and the shell on the forehead light up (just). The one I've got has a lilac body and sea-green hair. There was another one which was pink, which I paid for and then found when I got home that it had been left out of the bag. >:(

OH ! It was also a cartoon. They played it on a cable channel and I had my grandma get me the tape from an Avon catalog. It wasn't on for very long but I liked it. Haven't watched it in a long time so I don't know my views on it now X D

That's awesome that you're drawing from reference, too, yes keep at it! I am shit at realism, but I draw from reference all the time, reference drawing is important! Don't get frustrated because it doesn't look exactly like what you're referencing because you're doing an awesome job.

That first pic, damn that's a fine nose! I hate drawing noses so I am jellis of urs lol :D

Wednesday is glarin' at me like I done wronged her lol, that is a serious intense gaze. And the Nessie thing is really really cute and has depth to it; looked real familiar too but I don't recognize and never heard of what Wildshadow said they were!

but yes yes keep trying reference drawings because it teaches you all kinds of good shit, what things look like, how they move, and it's not about photo realism but believability within your own style of art.

Funny, she was based on/inspired by a woman I saw on the local news and she was indeed very glare-y and grouchy-looking. :D
